Money and violence. Can people still retain their humanity when exposed to powerful forces? What will the choice leave to society?
This is a masterpiece by the celebrated Swiss-born playwright Dürrenmatt. A wealthy woman from a declining town seeks revenge against her former lover and the town that abandoned her by murdering him in exchange for a massive donation. The play makes us think about human ethics and the horror of the masses through the portrayal of poverty-stricken people swayed by financial power. This was the first production of BIRD Theatre Company. It has been performed on several occasions both in and outside of Japan. With its solid ensemble of seven actors playing a large number of characters, it examines the power of violence inherent in human beings.
