Asia Culture Center / Heebie Jeebie Juice [From the South Korea]
This work is coproduced by Asia Culture Center in Gwangju (ACC) and Heebie Jeebie Juice. ACC is one of the most famous foundations in Korea where cultural exchange and collaboration takes place, and hosts exhibitions such as Biennale. Pansori is a Korean traditional musical storytelling form performed by a vocalist. This work multiplies together the traditional Korean entertainment and one of Shakespeare’s best works, “Othello”. You can experience how the world of Shakespeare, which features many characters will be told by a single storyteller; how the tragedy born from jealousy of “Othello” is going to be sublimated. Please enjoy the fusion of Western and Eastern spirits.
Originally written by William Shakespeare <Othello>
Composed and Directed by Young Wook Im
Music by Inhye Park
Performed by Inhye Park (Narrator), Sunggeun Kim (a bowed seven-stringed instrument "Ajaeng"), Mirying Sim (a twelve-stringed Korean harp."Kayageum"), Chorong Oh (a pipe instrument, "Piri"), Sangwha Jeong (Percussion instrument)
