YOKOSHI Yasuko [From Kyoto, Japan]

Yokoshi’s work exquisitely balances and presents the theoretical and physical el-ements of dance, which makes her work more captivating. She spent time at the Bird Theatre to complete this piece and is finally performing for an audience. Set-ting “Yamauba” of the Japanese traditional masked dance-drama of Noh as its ba-sis, this piece explores the contrast between the West and the East, gender issues among many others in a way that can be approached only through dance perfor-mance. This singing of Gelsey Bell, a singer who has starred in Broadway musi-cals, shall not be missed out.
