“Disability” is not being physically disabled. It is the inconvenience that occurs when a person interact with the society. “Disability” shares something in common with all the ages and societies, but it also has something peculiar to each of the times and societies at the same time. They are the Off-Broadway theatre in New York. They would shake our biased thoughts on “disability” by bringing us laughter.

“The Fourth Wall”(1992) was written by A. R. Gurney, a famous American playwright who died last year. It has been well-known as a witty and incisive comedy dealing with the wealthy white society in America. As the mourning for A. R. Gurney who had had a close relationship with TBTB, they will present their latest production which had been just recently performed at the regular scheduled performance in Off-Broadway, New York in July this year. Three out of four performers are physically, visually or aurally disabled.
Story
Peggy has redecorated the living room and her husband, Roger, can't stand it. It became like a stage set. Anyone who enters this room starts playing and singing to “the fourth wall” (= the audience) like an actor on the stage.
They have been doing activities for playwrights and actors with disabilities for almost forty years. They also have been contributing a lot to changing images of disabled people; they are not dependent but independent. They have received high reputation in Off-Broadway, New York. For example, the New York Times calls them “an extraordinary troupe designed to defy expectations”, the New York Post says they are “quite simply one of the most enjoyable companies in the country”.
