Since I worked on theatrical performances with grandmas in Shikano four years ago as well as six years ago, I have been deeply fascinated by how people age and how theatre art could help bring out its process, which led to this plan to create theatre art with the elderly. The play we selected for this event is one of the masterpieces of human drama produced in 1930 or Showa 5. It features the period of Showa and “human empathy” representing the period. Until very recently, “Mother of My Dreams” has been repeatedly reproduced as theatre performances and films. This might indicate that this work somehow wins hearts and minds over time. With the help of this masterpiece and the elderly who lived through the period of Showa, this theatre art aims at creating time for the audience to feel connected and understand how aging can be fascinating, sometimes with a touch of comedy.
