"BIRD" Theatre Festival TOTTORI 11

人の光を観るのが観光ならば、舞台を観るのは最高の観光だ!

Japanese

“It is well known that art connects humans and nature. However, art can also make people realize that all humans share the same fate with their origins.”

(John Dewey, An American Philosopher, 1859-1952)

The “BIRD” Theatre Festival TOTTORI combines the power of theatre art gathered both from in and outside Japan along with the power of the locals, history and its location. It creates an incredible excitement, exclusive to this special event. This year marks the 11th year for this festival. It will take place over the three weekends in many places inside Shikano town, Tottori city. Through a focus on theatre art, the “BIRD” Theatre Festival will bring you various encounters with joyful, fun, tasty and moving experiences.

There will be two additional performance venues. Moreover, we will set up the space for the theatre festival’s official food and exhibition in the castle town area.

Along with providing outstanding works both from Japan and overseas, this festival will broaden the connection with the local people and resources. It will also give you the opportunity to think about people and the community around you. We invite you to imagine the future while enjoying it. We will make this festival the only place that you can truly cerebrate the life experience. Please come and join this festival.

Performed by Young People

Young theatre artists and trainees (those who are still learning) meet the audience and other productions through presenting their own performance, which will lead them to express deeper level of what they are now. Then they will also re-encounter themselves.
We believe it a great thing that the theatre festival becomes a place for young people to grow. We added this role to our theatre festival as one of the most important pillars.

A Production with the Community

The familiar scenery would look different though your experience with theatre art and dance. People that you know well show up. Theatrical art gets into various people’s lives. Then it becomes the mediator to dissimilate people and the scenery.
That is the complicated way of explaining our aim for this production. Please come and see the performance anyway. It will be so much fun. Then you would understand it.
