Things Born Out of “Romeo and Juliet”-2018

Japan

JIYU Gekijo-Freedom Theatre [From Tottori, Japan]

JIYU Gekijo-Freedom Theatre creates theatre productions with disabled and able-bodied people all together. This is a famous programme at BIRD Theatre Festival. We recruit members every year. Familiar members, returned members and new members pull out themselves with each other, sharing and making curious and soft time together. You will come to think of what is to live together hand in hand along with laughter. This year, their performance will charge an admission fee.

Originally Written by W. Shakespeare

Composed and Directed by NAKASHIMA Makoto, SAITO Yoriaki

Performed by JIYU Gekijo-Freedom Theatre

JIYU Gekijo-Freedom Theatre has been active since August, 2013, produced by BIRD Theatre Company. This year marks 6th year for them. There will be fourteen performers including people with intellectual, physical or visual disabilities. The famous story by Shakespeare will be performed playfully, seriously and excessively from time to time. In addition, each performer’s story of love experience or imagination will be added to the story. They had a favourable reception at the performance in Nantes, France in 2017. They have been creating the 2018 version with new members.
